Meet Mayita

I am Mayita Sanchez. A public servant, small business owner, grant and business strategist, and proud Carson City resident.

For more than a decade, I have called Carson City my home. I have worked alongside local governments, nonprofits, schools, and community organizations to solve problems, secure funding, and build stronger communities. My career has been dedicated to helping organizations navigate complex challenges, improve public services, and turn good ideas into meaningful results.

As a wife and mother of six, I understand the everyday realities families face. From balancing working and childcare to finding safe neighborhoods, quality schools and opportunities to build a better future. Those experiences shape how I approach public service: with practical solutions, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to listening.

I’m running for Carson City Board of Supervisors because I believe local government should be transparent, responsive, and focused on delivering results. Our city is growing, and with that growth comes important decisions about infrastructure, housing, public safety, economic opportunity, and preserving the character of the community we love.

I don’t believe leadership begins at the top. It begins with the people—by showing up, listening, and working alongside one another.

This is who I am.

You'll find me at local bars listening to live music or singing karaoke. More often than not, we're stopping at the nearest taco truck for another plate of tacos. We enjoy wandering Carson City's parks and walking trails, spending weekends at community events, and taking in everything that makes this city special. I love music—both playing it and listening to it—so you'll often find me dancing with my husband and our friends. We also love fishing close to home, and no drive is complete without rolling down the window to say hello to the cows along the way.

People often ask me, "What do you bring to the table?"

My answer is simple.

I bring people to the table —

Because the best ideas don’t belong to one person, one neighborhood, or one political perspective. They come from listening to one another, working together, and making decisions that reflect the voices of our community.

Why I am Running

This campaign is about building bridges—between generations, between public and private, between neighbors and opportunity.

I believe elected officials have a responsibility to ask hard questions, challenge assumptions, and be willing to rethink the status quo when it no longer serves our community.

My responsibility is not to special interests, political parties, or preserving the way things have always been done.

My responsibility is to the people of Carson City.

That means listening first, making decisions based on facts and community input, and having the courage to speak up when something isn't working. If a policy, process, or project isn't serving the public interest, I'll ask why—and I'll work with the community to find a better path forward.

Leadership isn't about maintaining the status quo. It's about earning trust, solving problems, and making decisions that leave Carson City stronger than we found it.

Throughout my career, I've connected governments, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations to solve problems and deliver results. I've seen what happens when people work together with a shared purpose—and I know Carson City is capable of even more!
